Barcelona waits for UEFA decision over Juventus trail
Barcelona has been keenly watching on the Proceedings in Italy, as Juventus Appealed against their point deduction in league. The Juventus points on the league table for this season has been deducted, as they have proved to be involved in the transfer dealings, giving false statement regarding finance.
Juve has appealed in the court against the points deduction issue, UEFA have asked the Turin court for the case files regarding to Juventus case, as they carry out their investigation.
Barcelona has been closely monitoring Juve’s case as it was similar to their case in refree scam. They are about to face a significant ban from UEFA. The Barcelonians are looking nervously for the results, as they fight corrupting charges for Negreira case. They feel that the preceedings of Juve’s trial is just an example for them to their own Potential dealings with UEFA.
As the Proceedings with Barcelona, La Liga had written a letter to UEFA as the case become public, And have asked the European Body to Investigate the matter as they are forbidden to sanction Barcelona in sporting times as it’s time barred in spain.
Juventus Trail
The prosecutor of the case alleged that the club had showed fake losses in the period between 2018 and 2020, particularly regarding the amount to player sales.
Juventus have denied about their accuse and said they were following finance with industry standards. Besides the points deduction now means they are down in 10th place, and leaves them 12 points adrift of the Champions League places. It is a bitter blow for the Italian giants, and comes just one week after their humbling 5-1 defeat against league leaders Napoli.
A statement from the FIGC confirmed the punishment in a statement that read: “The Federal Court of Appeal presided over by Mario Luigi Torsello has partially accepted the appeal of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office sanctioning Juventus with 15 penalty points to be served in the current football season.”
The FIGC said in a statement that the points sanction was to be inflicted this season, a huge blow to Juventus whose chances of qualifying for next season’s Champions League are now greatly compromised. Juventus drop down from third to 10th place on just 22 points, 15 from the top four positions in Italy’s top flight.
Missing out on Europe’s top and richest club competition would be a further blow to the club’s accounts which last season were nearly €239 million in the red. Juve’s current sporting director Federico Cherubini was also banned for 16 months, another serious punishment which Juventus said in a statement they would appeal at the Italian Olympic Committee.
Barcelona Negreira case
Barcelona have been charged with corruption over payments made by the club to the then vice-president of the Spanish referees’ committee.
Spain’s public prosecutor has accused the club of maintaining a relationship with Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira in which ‘in exchange for money’ he carried out actions that would ‘lead to Barcelona being favoured in the decision making of the referees’.
The prosecution says €7.3million was paid by the club to DASNIL and NILSAT, two companies owned by Negreira.
The club could face huge financial penalties, and Negreira case, former Barcelona presidents Sandro Rosell and Josep Bartomeu, and former directors Oscar Grau and Albert Soler could face up to four years in jail.
Courts will now decide whether there is sufficient evidence to prove that Negreira used money paid to him by Barcelona to influence matches in the club’s favour.
Barcelona’s current president Joan Laporta was asked about the scandal earlier this week and said: ‘Barca has never bought referees and Barca has never had any intention of buying referees. Absolutely never. The forcefulness of the facts contradicts those who try to change the story.
Barca say the payments made to Negreira’s company, Dasnil 95 SL, were for “technical reports on refereeing” and argue such services are common at the top end of the game.
Laporta, who could be called as a witness because he was also president from 2003 to 2010, disputed this week that the club had ever bought off officials.
“Barca have never bought referees nor influence,” he said Tuesday. “That was never the intention and that has to be clear. The facts contradict those that are trying to tell a different story.”
Until now, Negreira, who left his role as vice president of Spain’s refereeing committee in 2018, had been the sole focus of the investigation for payments worth €1.4m received from Barca from 2016 to 2018 after they were flagged by the tax office.
