Stuttgart vs Hamburger SV Preview

The Bundesliga Relegation playoff between Stuttgart and Hamburger is about to held on today night at Mercedes Benz Arena for the first leg.

The Hosts are fighting to maintain their top flights for next season, while the visitors are hoping to return to the top tier league after five years.

However, the visitors are able to welcome back Bakery Jatta and Ludovit Reis from one-match suspensions, and Reis could return to the first XI at the expense of either Sonny Kittel or Jean-Luc Dompe, the latter of whom scored the only goal in last weekend’s win over Sandhausen, though.

The two teams have a long-standing rivalry, meeting 117 times across ompetitions since 1937. Stuttgart lead 47-46. They last met in the 2. Bundesliga in 2020, where Stuttgart won 3-2.

Stuttgart are unbeaten in five home meetings against Hamburg, winning four. Hamburg had the best-attacking record in the 2. Bundesliga this season, scoring 70 goals in 34 games.

Stuttgart have just one win in seven home games this season. After going winless in six away games, the visitors have won their last two.
