Jack Butland moves to Rangers

Jack Butland moves to Rangers on a four-year contract after the 30 year old goalkeeper after he moves from Crystal palace.

Butland being having Nine England caps, spent his last season on loan to Manchester united from Palace but made no appearences in this season. On the other hand, rangers were looking for a replacement after releasing Veteran Allan McGregor.

Rangers manager Michael Beale said Butland is coming into the prime years of his career and with huge experience. He has played for England at every level, including nine caps for the senior team and five for the Great Britain Olympic team. “It was clear from our first meeting that we have a strong alignment on football and his development moving forward.

Jack Butland moves to Rangers“I feel that we have recruited an excellent goalkeeper and, importantly, a top person.” Butland has been with eight English clubs and his longest spell was with Stoke City from 2013 to 2021, during which time he made 169 Potters appearances and won most of his England caps.

His most recent senior appearance was in Palace’s 3-2 defeat by Everton in May 2022 – his 17th overall since joining the Premier League club in 2020. Butland said he is “over the moon” to be granted “a huge opportunity”. “The club speaks for itself,” he said. “No matter where you are in football, you know about Rangers Football Club.

“I feel great and motivated at the age that I am – and I feel excited at what the future holds. Doing that at a club that is equally as passionate about winning and being at the top was huge for me.”

McGregor, Robby McCrorie and Jon McLaughlin all featured in goal for Rangers last season, with 41-year-old McGregor playing most with McCrorie taking over for most of the club’s post-split Scottish Premiership fixtures. McCrorie, McLaughlin and fellow stopper Kieran Wright are all under contract for next season. On the match with Southampton, Crystal palace had victory with 2-0 as Ebere Eze double scores for the victory.

Butland is the third new signing for next season announced by the Ibrox club following the arrival of midfielder Kieran Dowell from Norwich City and right-back Dujon Sterling from Chelsea.

Michael Beale on an interview

“It’s probably everything I wished it to be in terms of being a natural transition from being an assistant for many years. My desire was to become a manager. Two different leagues in one season, a lot of drama in between but I’ve had a lot of experience in that.

“The size of the clubs are different. I loved my time at Queens Park Rangers with Les Ferdinand and the staff there. It was really important to me before coming back to Rangers.

“The opportunity to come here I didn’t think would come anywhere as near as quickly as it did. This is a juggernaut of a club and everything that comes with it but I’ve been pleased with my staff and how they’ve handled it. I’ve been pleased with the support I’ve had from the club and everybody around the backroom team.

“There’s a tinge of disappointment because I felt we could have done better. We’ve won a lot of games but in the real key moments we’ve tended to shoot ourselves in the foot. That will be in the forefront of my mind going for the recruitment this summer.

“It’s a really important summer for me, the football club, the fans and ultimately for the players in the squad as well.”

“The team wasn’t as broken because we won a lot of matches and played well. We’ve managed to turn a corner in terms of our consistency home and away. We score a lot of goals, especially away from home. Some of our big away performances I’ve been delighted with.

“But second is last certainly in this country and the way that our league is, and the intensity. It’s important that we don’t want to finish second so we have to make some changes.

“It’s a harsh world sometimes football but that’s the expectation here at Rangers and you have to change players in search for extra players that can come in and make a difference, make a big impact. That’s what we’re looking for this summer.

“We’ve made some decisions to freshen up the squad to bring in people that can make a considerable difference to the outcome of the season.

“Our points total will be one that would have won the league in many other years. The game can be ruthless. The opinion on a group of players can be ruthless as an occurrence of that. What I’ve got to do now with my staff is bring in some good players that can help us go on a journey for the next three to five years.”
