Calvin Ramsay Profile
Calvin Ramsay to join Preston on loan by the end of this season. Since his move to Premier League club Liverpool in June 2022, now he signed a five-year contract for an initial fee of £4.2m, a club record sale for Aberdeen.
On 1 November 2022, Ramsey made his debut for Liverpool when he came on as an 87th minute substitute in the 2-0 win against Napoli in the 2022–23 UEFA Champions League. On 9 November 2022, he started his first game for Liverpool in the win against Derby County in the third round of the EFL Cup at Anfield.
In February 2023, having made only two appearances for Liverpool’s first team, Ramsay was ruled out for the rest of the 2022–23 season following surgery on an unspecified injury. On this transfer windows, Alexis Mac Allister moves to liverpool from Brighton.
Calvin Ramsay was signed June 2022 as back up for Trent Alexander Arnold at right back. Born in Aberdeen on 31st July 2003, he progressed through his home city club’s youth ranks and became part of the first team set up in 2020/21, making four substitute appearances towards the end of the season.
For 2021/22 he was the club’s first choice right back but did miss two months before Christmas due to a hamstring injury. He was named as the Scottish Football Writers young player of the season and made his international under 21 debut.
Liverpool signed him in a deal worth an initial £4.2 million but with add ons and a sell on clause. Jurgen Klopp announced he would immediately become part of the first team squad and wold not be loaned out for 2022/23.
It turned out to be a frustrating season however, his pre season disrupted by a back problem diagnosed during his medical. Outings were limited to a brief substitute appearance against Napoli in the Champions League and playing all ninety minutes of a Carabao Cup tie with Derby County.
Both these games were in November, a month in which he also made his full Scotland debut. In February 2023 he had knee surgery which ruled him out for the rest of the campaign but he vowed to rest, recover and come back stronger. Jurgen Klopp’s side had a one of the finest victory against Spurs with 4-3 in Premier League Premises.
Calvin Ramsay to Join Preston
Calvin Ramsay planned to join Preston North end in a season long loan. Ramsay signed from Aberdeen in June 2022 but injuries meant the 19-year-old only made two appearances for Liverpool in the past campaign.”The Championship is a top league and the main thing for me is trying to get game time,” said Ramsay. “I’m going to be able to do that at a good club. I can’t wait to get started.”
Ramsay initially had a back problem following his move to Liverpool and then missed the rest of the season after he had surgery in February. His two Liverpool appearances came against Napoli and Derby County in November.
He was a late substitute in a win against the Italians in the Champions League group stage, before starting against Derby when the Reds beat them on penalties in the Carabao Cup. Ramsay also made his Scotland debut against Turkey in November.
Calvin Ramsay injury
Injuries quickly derailed those plans, though. First, a stress fracture was discovered in his back following his arrival at the club. Then, as he finally worked towards a return from that in the new year, he picked up a knee injury that required surgery.
As a result, he was limited to just two first team appearances. And now, he could be headed to the Championship on loan for the 2023-24 season in order to get back on track following last season’s struggles.
Preston North End are said to want Ramsay for the season, and for their part, Liverpool are said to have not yet determined if they will send him out on loan for playing time or keep him in the hope he can belatedly fill the role he was signed for.
A departure for Ramsay would likely require Liverpool to sign a new player to provide depth at right back, which could help to explain the recent uptick in links between the Reds and Bayern and France right back/centre half Benjamin Pavard.
