Ruben Neves Joins Saudi’s Al-Hilal for 47m

The 26 year old midfielder, had a year left on his contract, Ruben Neves joins Saudi’s Al-Hilal for 47m which becomes a club record after he leaves six seasons at Molineux.

Ruben Neves is one of the best player to leave the European club for Saudi Arabia pro League. After Karim Benzema left Real Madrid for Al-Ittihad, joining Cristiano Ronaldo who joined Al-Nassr in January.

Ruben Neves joins Saudi's Al-Hilal 47mN’Golo Kante agreed a deal to leave Chelsea and Join his team mate Karim Benzema at Al-Ittihad earlier this week. The Chelsean goalkeeper Edouard Mendy is also close to signing for Saudi pro-League Al Ahli while Manchester City’s Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva is a target for Al-Hilal. Man City agrees to sign a deal for mateo Kovacic for £30m.

Ruben Neves said at the end of his last season, he was ambitious amid interest from Barcelona, but with the La Liga champions not able to come up with an attractive offer Neves opted for Saudi Arabia.

Al-Hilal surpasses £41m that Wolves received for Diogo Jota when he switched to Liverpool in 2020. It is also the biggest transfer fee paid by a Saudi pro league, dwarfing the reported £18m Euro deal making Matheus Pereira from West Brom to Al-Hilal in 2021. Ruben Neves said, “The way we worked together, the way we fought for the club, what we achieved and all the moments we spent together was unbelievable.

“There are no words to describe our dressing room, with a team spirit that I’ve never experienced before. And then to become captain for the final year made me so proud.

“My kids grew up in Wolverhampton and they were so happy here. Me and my lovely wife will never forget the time we had here as a family.”

Wolves Director Matt Hobbs described Neves as one of Wolves best ever players. “Ruben is the embodiment of everything you look for when trying to bring players into a football club; a leader, a humble man and an extremely talented footballer who took Wolves to a different level,” he said.

“He was part of a great era for this club and will go down as one of our best ever players. We are grateful for everything he has done for Wolves and wish him and his family the very best for the future.” Aston Villa Renews contract John McGinn for four years.  

Ruben Neves journey over the league

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Ruben Neves has appeared in the vast majority of their Premier League matches in 2022/2023, making 35 appearances overall and playing 3,020 minutes. He has started in 33 of these appearances across their 38 fixtures and entered as a substitute on two occasions.

Neves last made an appearance in a league game on May 28, playing 45 minutes for Wolverhampton Wanderers versus Arsenal in a 5-0 loss. In total, he has scored six Premier League goals this term, making him tied as the club’s top league scorer, and chipped in with one assist. He has amassed 12 yellow cards.

It was against Crystal Palace on April 25 when Neves last scored, netting in a 2-0 win. His opening goal of the campaign came in the 1-1 draw against Newcastle United on August 28.

In last season’s Premier League, Neves played in 33 games for Wolverhampton Wanderers, scored four goals and provided two assists.

Neves moved to Wolverhampton Wanderers in July 2017 from Porto, for whom he made 59 league appearances in total, scoring three goals.

Aged 21 years and 151 days, Neves made a Premier League debut to remember on August 11, 2018 for Wolverhampton Wanderers. The Portuguese midfielder scored a goal in his opening match in the competition versus Everton. So far in his Premier League career, he has played 177 times in the competition, with 21 goals and nine assists.
