The fast bowler Mark Wood has returned to Playing 11 for the 2nd test in the West Indies tour of England 2024 starting on July 18.
Mark Wood added to England Playing 11 for the 2nd Test
Mark Wood was unavailable for the first test as he just returned from England’s T20 World Cup campaign. He picked up three wickets in five matches. As he did not play in the County Championship for Durham this season, he has been included in England’s squad after the hosts registered an innings and 114-run victory at Lord’s.
This will be England’s first test at home since 2012 without Anderson or Stuart Broad in the Playing 11. Anderson has been seen at Trent’s on Tuesday, to start his new career as England’s bowling coach after he retired from Test cricket.
England playing 11: Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (c), Jamie Smith (wk), Chris Woakes, Gus Atkinson, Mark Wood, Shoaib Bashir.
Matthew Potts and Dillon Pennington who were included in the squad for the first two tests, are yet to appear in the home tests.
Potts has had an impressive test start with 23 wickets in six matches he played in 2022 and 2023. But he hasn’t featured for England since the Ireland Test at Lord’s last June. Meanwhile, Pennington is yet to make his test debut.
With the likes of Gus Atkinson, Wood, and Shoaib Bashir in the squad for the second test, England will be tough to face for West Indies at Trent’s Bridge.
