Sam Curran Hits Maiden T20 Century
Sam Curran’s century in the match against Hampshire secured Surrey a spot in the quarter-finals and also put the side at the top of the south group. The all-rounder smashed 06 sixes and 07 fours and took 58 deliveries to score 102 runs with the winning hit as Surrey chased down a target of 184 with five balls remaining at The Kia Oval.
Sam Curran got a lifeline when he caught a no-ball for 44 and shared stands with Dominic Sibley and Jamie Overton. John Turner picked two wickets for Hampshire conceding 30 runs.

Batting first Hampshire scored 183 runs with a career-best 66 runs from Toby Albert who smashed his first half-century in the format. Jordan Clark’s bowling returns of 3 for 24 to keep the target within bounds while Matt Dunn picked two wickets in his first T20 match after three years.
Hampshire who were the 2022 champions has already been out of this year’s Blast. They adopted an aggressive approach but failed to keep the phase. Ben McDermott, hit Dunn for the game’s first six only to find the hands of Overton on the boundary later in the over.
Starting their innings, Surrey lost back-to-back wickets as Wheal dismissed Will Jacks and Laurie Evans for single-digit scores.
After getting back to the county cricket from the T20 World Cup 2024 last month, celebrated his team-mate’s reprieve by planting Dawson over wide mid-on for six. Curran survived after Sibley’s dismissal to reach 50 runs in 34 balls, before surpassing his previous career best in the format. Overton caught the mood with successive sixes of Jack and scored 21 runs before being dismissed by Turner.
Currently, Surrey stands top in the South group with 9 wins in 13 matches. Surrey will be playing their next match against Kent on July 19 at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence.
