England red ball captain Ben Stokes is set to make his appearance in the upcoming edition of The Hundred as he will be playing for Nothern Superchargers.
Ben Stokes Returns to The Hundred for Northern Superchargers
Ben Stokes will play four games for the Superchargers in The Hundred 2024. He missed the competition last year but will be back in the tournament. Other than Stokes, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Jamie Smith, Ollie Pope and Harry Brook are the other players who were involved in the test series on the West Indies tour of England and will be joining the side in the Hundred.
Stokes has made two appearances for the Superchargers during the 2021 season of the Hundred 2021 but has not played in the competition since taking over test captaincy. He underwent chronic knee surgery after the ODI World Cup last year and has rested between the test series.
The inclusion of these top cricketers across the world will significantly take the competition to the next level. Rising youngsters like Gus Atkinson, Matthew Potts, and Dillon Pennington will be available from the start of the tournament.
England will be playing a three-match test series starting on 21 and will be played until September 10. With the tournament set to begin on July 23, the players selected for the first test against Sri Lanka at Emirates Old Trafford on August 21 will be available for the Hundred’s Eliminator and Final which are scheduled for August 17 and 18 depending on their roles and workload management.
Northern Superchargers finished at the bottom of the points table in 2023, having won only two of their eight matches. James Foster and previous captain James Parnell have stepped down from their roles and Andrew Flintoff will take over as captain while Harry Brook will take over the captaincy.
After England’s test series against West Indies concluded on July 30, while Northern Superchargers will already have played two matches. Stokes will be required for England’s duty for the Test series against Sri Lanka.
The men’s competition will begin with Oval Invincibles taking on Birmingham Phoenix on July 24 at the Kennington Oval, London.
