Frederick Sewards Trueman (Fred Trueman) was an English cricketer who played for Yorkshire County Cricket Club in the domestic season. Known as one of the greatest bowlers in cricket’s history, Trueman deployed a fast pace and was widely known as Fiery Fred.
Along with Brian Statham, he opened England’s bowling, he opened the England bowling for many years and they formed one of the most famous bowling partnerships in Test cricket history.

Played across the tests, he has played 62 Tests for England and was the first bowler to take 300 wickets in his career. He was an outstanding fielder and a useful late-order batsman who made three FC centuries.

- Treuman has picked a best figure of 8/31 in an inning. During a match against India in 1952 he picked 8wickets in 52 balls.
- Fred Truman secured 22nd rank in the list of bowlers to have the most wickets in a series. He picked 34 wickets during the Wisden Trophy against West Indies in 1963.
- He secured 55th position in the list of most wicket-takers in a calendar year. He picked up 57 wickets in 19 innings.
- Fiery Red has picked up 63 wickets in 12 matches played at Lord’s, London. He secured the 30th rank in the list of bowlers to have the best career bowling average (21.57).

Fred Truman Awards
Fred Trueman has received several awards and honours across his test career.
- Cricket Writers’ Club elected him as the Young Cricketer of the Year in 1952.
- He was named Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1953.
- Trueman was awarded an OBE for services to cricket in 1989.
- He was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in 2009.
- He was named in Greatest Test Xl in ECB’s list of England’s greatest Test Xl in 2018.
