Arsenal agrees Chelsea’s Havertz for £65m deal on summer windows
Arsenal are one step away from signing forward, as Arsenal agrees Chelsea’s Havertz for £65m deal in the summer transfers. It was three years contract during which he had a tough times to find consistency following his £75m arrival from Bayer Leverkusen.
Being signed for £75m from Bayer Leverkusen in 2020, the international forward, 24 year-old, will be exit with a fair scoring record of 32 goals in 139 games, but the impression that he failed to carve out a specific role for himself within Chelsea side.
Havertz is set to move across London as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his Arsenal team following qualification for the Champions League.
Arsenal are also chasing England midfielder Declan Rice, the West Ham captain, but a second bid for the 24-year-old worth up to £90m was rejected on Tuesday.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are seeking to reduce their squad size and have also agreed a £30m deal with Manchester City for Croatia midfielder Mateo Kovacic, 29. Another midfielder, France international N’Golo Kante, 32year old, has agreed to sign for Saudi Arabian champions Al-Ittihad when his contract expires at the end of June.
The new ownership at Chelsea want to avoid letting players enter the final two years of their deals and Havertz, whose contract runs out in 2025, has not agreed an extension at the club. On the other hand, Jude Bellingham had signed Real Madrid on four year contract from Borussia Dortmund.
Havertz’s goals per game average at Chelsea is around 0.23, lower than his 0.31 average at Leverkusen. His 2022/23 season was particularly underwhelming, with only Leeds Patrick Bamford recording a greater underperformance compared to his expected goals output. Havertz also missed 14 of the 18 big chances he was presented with.
Havertz can point to his winning goals in the 2021 champions league and the 2022 Club World Cup finals, strikes that earned him a reputation as a player for the big occasion and which must be considered when analysing his time at Chelsea.
The goal against City was one of the six he has scored in the champions League across 31 games with the Blues. Surely he should be expected of a forward player on one of the Europe’s biggest clubs.
