Bojan Statement about Ansu Fati Knee injury
Bojan said, “I experienced firsthand what is happening to him. There is an enormous difference in treatment between the trust that is generated at the beginning, when everything goes well, and when things go wrong due to injury or any other reason.
“You go from being a person to being a character. At 17 I had to measure myself with the label of the ‘new Messi’. You have to learn to detach yourself and be aware of the limits, to accept them.”
Will Ansu Fati passed in fitness test
Ansu Fati will be Barcelona’s big news ahead of Thursday’s game against Real Madrid in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final. AS understands the young forward will be back with the squad on Wednesday and he is now expected to be included in the matchday squad to travel to Madrid for El Clasico.
It’s a return that will be welcomed with open arms, especially with the absence of Robert Lewandowski due to a hamstring strain. Fati injured his left knee after suffering a heavy blow during Friday’s training session, which prevented him from travelling with the team to Almería.
It remains to be seen what role Xavi has in store for Fati ahead of Thursday’s Clasico. The absence of Lewandowski opens the door for Ansu to play as a 9 although this season he has not performed well when he has had to replace Lewandowski. He could end up losing his place in the starting lineup to Ferran Torres, who in the last few games looks to be regaining confidence.
Ansu Fati over the League
In 2022-23, Ansu has only scored six goals: three in LaLiga (Real Sociedad, Cadiz and Villarreal), two in the Copa (Intercity and Ceuta) and one in the Spanish Super Cup (Betis).
The Spain international is expected to play some part in the Clasico, either from the start or in the second half, as lately the Blaugrana have been struggling to find the back of the net.
Apart from the absence of Lewandowski, Xavi will also be without Ousmane Dembele and Pedri, two of the club’s greatest goalscoring threats. As things stand, the most effective player in front of goal that Xavi can count on for the trip to Madrid is Raphinha, with a total of seven goals this season.
The Spain international was only named on the bench for both legs of Barca’s Europa League knockout round playoff clash with Manchester United too, playing the final 15 minutes in Thursday’s 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford.
Fati and Barcelona have since returned to base to prepare for their return to La Liga action, but the attacker will not be involved against Almeria after sustaining a training injury
A statement released on the Barcelona website revealed that Fati had suffered a bruise knee, but no timeframe has been placed on his recovery.
The Spaniard spent nearly a year out with a severe knee injury between November 2020 and September 2021, and two separate hamstring injuries plagued him between November and March in the 2021-22 season.
When fit, Fati has registered 25 goals and nine assists from 92 games in a Barcelona jersey, including a total of six goals and three assists from 30 outings in all tournaments this season.
