The 24-year-old Emilio Gay will be leaving Northamptonshire at the end of the season and is set to sign for Durham after turning down the club’s offer of extending the contract.

Gay has a solid FC record with an average of 35.71 from 47 Red-ball matches since his debut at 19. He made his FC debut in the county in 2019 and has established himself in Northamptonshire’s top order.

He has been impressive in the current season of County Championship 2024 with a high score of 261 against Middlesex in April.

Emilio Gay will leave Northamptonshire at the end of the season.

A graduate of the Club’s Talent Pathway, the 24-year-old has been with the County since he was 15 but will now move onto a new opportunity.

Thank you for everything and all the best, Emilio! 🏵️

“After the most important, and memorable decade of my life, this season will be my last with Northamptonshire. Northamptonshire enabled me to fulfill my childhood dream, to become a professional cricket player.”

“Thank you to everyone at NCCC. Hopefully, I will make the club proud. Over the last decade at Northants, there have been so many people who have helped me progress. I will never be able to thank all my teammates, the coaches, the staff, and the fans enough. Northants will always have a special place in my heart. Thank you,” added Gay.

Northamptonshire has wished Gay well for a new journey in his career. The Club’s head coach John Sadler, “From early on we always believed Emilio would become a high-class batsman. He has a great work ethic and this is one of the reasons his game has developed so rapidly over the last two years.”

“It is a shame that Emilio’s future doesn’t lie with us, but he is very ambitious and believes a fresh challenge will be the best thing for him on his quest to play international cricket. We wish him well and will all enjoy watching his career unfold.”

Durham has signed the player after the signing of Will Rhodes from Warwickshire after he turned down the contract extension.
