Despite his willingness to coach a team, former captain Eoin Morgan has dismissed the rumors of him taking over England’s head coach role from Matthew Mott and said he would like to have some family time.
England had an unfavourable outing in the ODI World Cup 2023 where they failed to qualify for the knockout stages. Later they failed to defend the T20 World Cup title after losing to India in the semifinals of the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2024.
Due to failure in back-to-back tournaments, some reports suggested that Matthew Mott will step down and Eoin Morgan will take up the role. But Morgan has put an end to the speculation on the topic.
“This is news to me. When a coach faces intense scrutiny and uncertainty surrounding their future, it can be an unpleasant situation. Ultimately, only time will reveal what the outcome will be,” remarked Morgan.
Morgan has admitted that he would like to coach a team but said that it is not the right time to become a coach. He said he has a young family and would like to spend some quality time with them.
“Over the past couple of months, I’ve been frequently asked in the media about a coaching role and whether I would take it on. My response has been that the timing just isn’t right for me right now. While I do want to coach in the future, I currently have a young family and am enjoying the flexibility of my commentary work, which allows me to spend more time at home. The truth is, I’m absolutely loving what I’m doing at the moment,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Stuart Broad has brought in another interesting topic mentioning Andrew Flintoff’s audition at Nothern Superchargers feels like the England audition.
However, England’s managing director Rob Key has announced that a review of England’s performance in the T20 World Cup will commence soon. This puts significant pressure on Matthew Mott and England captain Jos Buttler.
