Geoffrey Boycott is a former Test Cricketer who played cricket for Yorkshire and England. In a controversial career between 1962 and 1986, Boycott established himself as one of England squad’s most successful opening batsmen.

He was known for his ability to occupy the crease and became a key player in England’s Test batting lineup for many years.

Geoffrey Boycott Records

Geoffrey Boycott has various records and achievements in Tests between 1964 and 1982. After his playing career, Boycott became a cricket commentator on radio and television.

Test Records

  • Geoffrey Boycott has ranked 33rd in the list of batters to have the most runs in his career. He scored 8114 runs in 193 innings including 22 Hundreds and 42 fifties.
  • Boycott has been named in the list of batters to have the most hundred in his Test career. He smashed 22 hundred in 193 innings he played and secured 33rd position in the list.
  • Boycs has been ranked as the 35th batter to have the most hundreds against one team. He has smashed 7 centuries against Australia in 71 innings.
  • He has secured 5th rank in the list of batters to have smashed a Hundred in consecutive innings. He smashed centuries in three consecutive innings – 6th test against Australia, 2nd and 3rd test against Pakistan in 1971 and also secured the 22nd position in the list of batters to have hundreds in three matches.
  •  He also becomes the 13th oldest player to score a hundred. He smashed a century at the age of 41 Years and 63 Days during the 3rd test on England’s tour of India in 1981.
  • Boycott also secured 10th position in the list of batters to have the most nineties in his career. He has 6 nineties scores in his test career.
  • Boycs has secured 27th rank in the batting records to have the most fifties in his career. Boycs have smashed 64 fifties in his test career.

  • Geoff also has 5 fifties in five consecutive innings and secured 33rd rank among the batters to have achieved the feat.
  • He has the secured 21st position in the list of longest individual innings by balls (555).
  • Geoff Boycott has been the 36th batter to have amassed faster than 5000 runs. He also becomes the fastest to 6000 runs.
  • He secured the 33rd position in the list of players to have the fastest to 7000 runs and secured the 29th position in the list to have scored the fastest 8000 runs.
  • Along with Barber, Boycott secured 46th rank in the list of players to have the highest partnership for the first wicket scoring 234 runs during a test match against Australia in 1966.
  • During a test match against India in 1967, Boycs along with Oliveira scored 252 runs for the fourth wicket and stands in 47th position to have the highest partnership for 4th wicket.
  • Along with Knott, Boycott scored 215 runs during a test match against Australia in 1977 to secure 37th rank in the list of batters to have the highest partnership for the sixth wicket.

ODI Records

  • Boycott secured 5th rank in the list of oldest players to score a Hundred. He smashed 105 during an ODI match against Australia in 1979 during his 39 Year 51 Days and also stands second in the list of senior players to have scored a maiden century.
  • Boycs has scored five fifties in five consecutive innings and secured 13th position in the list of batters to achieve the feat.
  • Geoff has secured 26th position in the list of oldest players to have played until the age of 41 Year 60 Days.
  • Geoffrey Boycott holds the 17th position on the list of oldest captains on captaincy debut.

Geoffrey Boycott Awards

  • Geoffrey Boycott was named one of Wisden’s Cricketers of the Year in 1965.
  • Geoffrey was awarded an OBE in 1980 for services to cricket after ending his test career with 8000 test runs.
  • Boycott was awarded an Honorary Life membership to Marylebone Cricket Club in 1993.
  • He was named one of five Cricketers of the Year by Wisden Cricketers and was inducted into ICC’s Hall of Fame in 2009.
  • Boycott was awarded an honorary doctorate of Sports Science by Leeds Metropolitan University on July 20, 2010.
  • Boycott was awarded was knighted for his services to sport in 2019.

Geoffrey Boycott Achievements 

  • Geoffrey has averaged over 100 in an English FC season 100.12 in 1971 and 102.53 in 1979 and is one of only two players to have achieved this twice.
  • Boycott captained the South Elmsall district team and achieved a batting average of 70.
  • In 1980, Geoffrey Boycott finished the season with an average of over 50.00 for the record eleventh consecutive year, surpassing the achievement of Jack Hobbs.
