Ian Botham is an England cricket commentator and a member of the House of Lords, a former cricketer who has served as chairman of Durham County Cricket since 2017. Known as one of the greatest all-rounders in the history of the game, he represented England in both the Test and ODI formats.

He was part of the English squads which finished as runners-up during the 1979 and 1992 Cricket World Cup.

  • Ian Botham has been named in the list of all-rounders to have 1000 runs and 100 wickets in his test record.
  • He has been named in the elite list of all-rounders to have 250 runs and 20 wickets in a series.
  • Botham has also been named in the list of all-rounder to have 100 runs and 10 wickets in a match. He smashed 114 runs and picked up 13 wickets during a test match against India in 1980.
  • Beefy has secured 67 sixes in his career and secured 23rd rank in the list of batters to have the most sixes in his test career. He also secured 42nd rank in the list of batters to have the most sixes (6) in an innings.
  • In Bowling statistics, Ian Botham secured 19th rank in the list of players to have the most wickets in his career. He whopped 383 wickets in 168 innings.
  • He also has ranked in 29th position to have the best figures in an innings. During the match against Pakistan in 1978 he picked 8 wickets for 34 runs at Lord’s. He also secured the best statistics during a game against India in 1980. He bagged 13 wickets and played a crucial role in the match.
  • He picked the most wickets during the Ashes in 1981. He picked 34 wickets and played a crucial role in the series.
  • He also has 63 wickets and secured the 30th ranking in the list of most wickets in a calendar year.
  • He has picked 69 wickets at Lord’s and secured 16th rank in the list of bowlers to have the most wickets on a single ground.
  • He also secured the best figures when on the losing side. He picked 11 during a match against Australia on December 14, 1979.

  • Botham has secured 9th position in the list of bowlers to have the most five-wicket haul in an innings in a career. He has 27 five-wicket haul in an innings in his test career. He also has 4 ten-wicket haul and secured 20th position in the list of bowlers to do so and also 32nd youngest player to take 10 wicket haul at the age of 22 Years 273 Days.
  • He has conceded the most runs (10878) in his test bowling career and secured 16th rank.
  • Botham has secured 17th rank in the list of bowlers to have most wickets taken caught (243).
  • He also has taken 148 catches as a fielder and secured 25th place in the list of players to do so.
  • Beefy has taken 95 wickets as a wicketkeeper and secured 12th rank in the list of players.
  • Botham has made certain records in the list of players to have the fastest career wickets.
    • 22nd rank to secure the fastest 50 wickets
    • 7th position to secure the fastest 100 wickets
    • 5th rank to secure the fastest 150 wickets
    • 7th rank to secure fastest 200 wickets
    • 10th rank to secure the fastest 250 wickets
    • 18th position in fastest 300 wickets
    • 14th rank to secure the fastest 350 wickets
  • Botham secured the 24th position to have the most catches in a career. He picked 120 wickets during his test career.
  • Ian Botham secured 10th rank in the list of players to have the most catches in a series. He picked 12 catches while fielding.
  • Botham secured 28th position in the list of players to have the highest partnership for the sixth wicket. Along with Botham, Randall secured 232 runs during the match against New Zealand in 1984.
  • He also secured the 23rd position in the list of captains at a young age. At the age of 24 Years and 194 Days, he led England against West Indies in 1980 at Nottingham.

ODI Records

  • Ian Botham has been ranked as the no.4 batter to have 1000 runs and 100 wickets in 116 matches he played in the ODI format.
  • Botham has been named in the list of players to have opened batting and bowling in the same match. During the match against West Indies in 1986, he opened the batting and bowling at the Port of Spain.
  • Ian has secured 17th rank in the list of batters to have the most runs in a career without a hundred. He has smashed 2113 runs in 106 innings with a high score of 79 and secured 17th position in the list of batters to have the most runs in a career without a hundred.
  • He has secured 48th rank in the list of players to have the longest career. He has played for 15 years and 364 days in the format.
  • He also ranked 35th on the list of youngest captains. He captained England at the age of 24 Years 186 Days.

Ian Botham Awards

  • Ian Botham was awarded an OBE for his services to cricket and charity in the year 1992.
  • Beefy was named Young Cricketer of the Year by the Cricket Writers’ Club in 1977. In the same year, he was awarded as one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year.
  • Botham was knighted for his services to cricket and charity in 2007.
  • Ian Botham was made a life peer in 2020, Baron Botham of Ravensworth in the county of North Yorkshire and he was the first cricketer to be awarded a peerage since Rachael Heyhoe in 2011.
