CA has brought in young batter Jake Fraser-McGurk to the Australia squad as a replacement for the retired David Warner for this summer’s white-ball tour of the UK.
Jake Fraser-McGurk Replaces David Warner in Australia Squad
David Warner retired from International cricket after Australia’s T20 World Cup exit in June. The 22-year-old batter Jake Fraser-McGurk who travelled as a reserve for the T20 World Cup 2024, has caught the attention of the selectors after an impressive performance at Delhi Capitals in IPL 2024 and is set to make his T20I debut in the tour.
Recently, Cricket Australia announced their squad on July 15 for the upcoming Scotland and England tour.
They will begin their new journey with three T20s against Scotland starting on September 04. After the T20I series, they will play a three-match T20I series and a five-match ODI series against England.
The Australian skipper Pat Cummins will be rested for the series to manage his workload ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025. He has signed a four year deal with Major Cricket League side San Francisco Unicorns in June and is set to join up with the squad this month.
The 20-year-old uncapped Cooper Connolly taking a spot in the T20 squad while Matthew Wade and Ashton Agar have been omitted from the squad. Mitchell Marsh will be captaining the side in the absence of Pat Cummins.
“This tour gives us a great opportunity to bring in some new players in the absence of David Warner and Matthew Wade, as well as giving some senior players time to prepare for the home summer and a busy first half of next year,” national selector George Bailey said.
