John McGinn renews contract with Villa on a four year contract
As the summer transfer windows is online, John McGinn renews contract with Villa for four years and will stay in Premier league club until 2027.
The Scotland midfielder 28, joined villa in 2018 from Hibernian. He scored the decisive second goal in the 2019 championship play-off final to earn Villa promotion back to the premier league and been the star player in the top flight.
The move from his previous club to villa park has proved to be excellent choice. “He immediately endeared himself to the Villa support with his all-action displays in the middle of the park. One of the first names on the teamsheet ever since, the firm fans’ favourite was named club captain last summer,” the club said in a statement. Manchester City treble winner captain Ilkay Gundagon leaves the club and joins Barcelona on a free transfer.
McGinn is gearing up for Villa’s first European campaign since the 2010-11 season, following their qualification for the Europa Conference League.
“Aston Villa is delighted to announce captain John McGinn has signed a new, long-term contract with the club,” read a statement on Villa’s official website.”The midfielder’s new deal will see him remain at Villa Park until 2027.”Villa are currently on their summer break, but will return to pre-season training next month before beginning the 2023-24 Premier League campaign away to Newcastle United on August 12.

John McGinn about the contract
John McGinn was happy about extending the contract and said, “If we perform like we did in the second half of the season, there’s no reason why we can’t compete for trophies.
“That’s what the club needs to aim for. We need to get success back – European football is part of that but the club needs trophies. The fans crave it.”
He continued: “There have been plenty of ups and downs, but I’ve loved every minute of it, and we’ve been pretty successful.
“The first season couldn’t have gone any better and we managed to get promoted. We found the Premier League challenging.
“We’ve had some great moments. This season epitomised what everyone wants to achieve and showed the potential and ambition everyone has.
“We’re really starting to achieve that with the manager and staff in place. It’s exciting for the fans and exciting to be a player here.”
John McGinn journey over the league
John McGinn is an Aston Villa midfielder who has played in the vast majority of their Premier League matches in 2022/2023, making 34 appearances overall and playing 2,697 minutes. He has been selected in the starting XI in 30 of these appearances across their 38 fixtures and entered as a substitute on four occasions.
The last time that Mcginn featured in the league came on May 28 for Aston Villa against Brighton & Hove Albion; a game that he played 90 minutes in during a 2-1 win. In total, the midfielder has netted one Premier League goal in 2022/2023, and chipped in with three assists. He has amassed seven yellow cards.
His opening goal of the campaign came in the 2-0 victory against Chelsea on April 1.
Last season for Aston Villa, Mcginn made 35 Premier League appearances, scored three goals and provided four assists.
Mcginn moved to Aston Villa in August 2018 from Hibernian, for whom he made 101 league appearances in total, scoring 12 goals and providing 15 assists.
Mcginn made a good impression on his league debut for Aston Villa on August 10, 2019. The midfielder scored a goal in his first game in the competition versus Tottenham Hotspur, at the age of 24 years and 296 days. So far in his Premier League career, he has played 134 times in the competition, with 10 goals and 15 assists.
