Maia Bouchier named in ICC Women’s Player of the Month nominees for June 2024

England’s middle-order batter turned opener Maia Bouchier has been named in the ICC Women’s Player of the Month nominees for June 2024. India’s Smriti Mandhana and Sri Lanka’s Vishmi Gunaratne are the other two cricketers nominated along with Bouchier for the award.

Maia Bouchier named in ICC Women’s Player of the Month nominees list

Maia Bouchier who currently plays for Hampshire has already won the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for March 2024 and this will be her second run for the award.

Maia Bouchier currently features in the New Zealand Women’s tour of England 2024 where they were scheduled to play 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is between June 26 and July 17. England already won the 3-match ODI series while the T20I series is set to kick start from Saturday(July 6).

In her two outings against the White Ferns, Maia Bouchier was dismissed only once while scoring 167 runs at a stunning strike rate of 121. Her 137 partnership with Tammy Beaumont helped England cruise to a comfortable nine-wicket win in the first ODI in Chester-le-Street. Bouchier scored 67 runs from 50 balls in her 137-run stand with Beaumont.

She went one better in the next ODI, slamming an unbeaten 100 off 88 balls in a chase of 142. She won the Player of the Match award for her extraordinary performance in the match. The 25-year-old right-hander made her international debut for the England women’s cricket team in September 2021.

Tammy Beaumont is the first Women cricketer from England to win the ICC Women’s Player of the Month. Beaumont won the award in February 2021. Heather Knight is the only England Women cricketer to win the award for more than one time. Bouchier will equal Heather Knight’s record if she wins the award this month.
