The Australia all-rounder Cameron Green has been ruled out from the ongoing England tour in 2024 due to a back injury and remains in doubt for the upcoming Border Gavaskar trophy starting in November.
The 25-year-old’s participation in the high-profile encounter against India has been cast in doubt. Green has been withdrawn from the final two ODIs of the series, sparking concerns over his fitness ahead of the much-anticipated BGT next month.
The injury occurred in Australia’s third ODI at Chester-le-Street on Wednesday, where Green played a significant role after whopping two wickets for 45 runs. However, following the game, Cameron Green has been reported with back soreness, due to which Australia’s medical staff pulled him out of the ongoing tour to prevent further damage.
Notably, he was absent from Friday’s delayed ODI at Lord’s where England won the match by 186 runs in 39 overs. The initial scans performed in England confirmed the back injury, though the full extent of the damage will only be revealed after his return to Australia.
“The extent of the injury and a timeline for his return won’t be known until Cameron arrives in Australia for further assessment,” said an Australian men’s team spokesperson via cricket.com.au.

Green has a history of back issues including a stress fracture that prevented his bowling during the 2019-20 season. Being crucial in Australia’s campaign in this marquee series.
Returning to Australia for rehabilitation, Green will be racing against time to regain fitness ahead of the series. If he is absent, Australia will prepare to take on India currently the top-ranked side in the WTC standings.
With the Border Gavaskar Trophy on the line, India will be eyeing a third consecutive series win on Australian soil, and Green’s recovery will be closely monitored.
The final match of the Australia and England tour will be played on September 29 at Seat Unique Stadium.
