Arsenal signs Amanda Ilestedt from PSG

As the summer transfers is online, Arsenal signs Amanda Ilestedt from PSG after being in the club for two years. She begin her senior career at FC Rosengard, with two of the five league titles she won came under current Arsenal boss Jonas Eidevall.

“I’m really excited and happy to be here,” said Ilestedt, who has played 64 times for Sweden.

“My goal is to win titles and this is a great club with great players and fantastic facilities, so I believe this is the right place for me to achieve that.

“There is a real sense of momentum around this club and the support has been wonderful – I can’t wait to walk out onto the pitch in the Arsenal kit.”

Arsenal signs Amanda Ilestedt from PSGEidevall said, “I’m delighted that Amanda has joined us here at Arsenal. She brings extensive international experience and I believe she has a great mix of presence and technical ability, making her an ideal fit for our squad. “I enjoyed working with Amanda during our time in Sweden and am looking forward to coaching her here at Arsenal too.”

Ilestedt won Olympic silver with Sweden in 2016 and World Cup bronze in 2019, and has been named in the squad for the upcoming World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. West Ham reject Man City’s third bid for Declan Rice for 90million Euros.

Amanda Ilestedt career over the season

The signing comes as a major boost to Eidevall’s defensive ranks following the long-term injury to Leah Williamson, which was sustained in April. Arsenal also confirmed the departure of Brazil international Rafaelle Souza at the end of the 2022/23 campaign, leaving the heart of the defence a key area in need of reinforcements this summer.

Ilestedt will also become Arsenal’s first signing of the summer with only departures and contract extensions confirmed so far. The Gunners have also been heavily linked with free agent Alessia Russo and reports of a move have increased tenfold after the forward confirmed she is set to leave Manchester United upon the expiry of her contract at the end of the month.

Bayern Munich defender Amanda Ilestedt has played in the vast majority of the side’s Frauen Bundesliga games in 2020/2021, making 18 appearances overall and playing 916 minutes. She has been selected in the starting XI in 10 of these appearances across their 22 fixtures and entered as a substitute on eight occasions.

Ilestedt played 14 Frauen Bundesliga games last season for Bayern München and scored one goal. Prior to joining Bayern München in July 2019, Ilestedt made 35 league appearances in total at Turbine Potsdam, scoring two goals. The Swedish central defender joins us following a two-year spell with French side Paris Saint-Germain.

Amanda began her senior career at FC Rosengard in 2009 and went on to have an eight-year career with the Swedish club, winning five Damallsvenskan league titles as well as one Swedish Cup and three Swedish Super Club titles. Two of those league titles came under the management of our head coach, Jonas Eidevall.

Amanda moved to Germany with Turbine Potsdam in 2017, before signing for Bayern Munich in 2019. The centre-back spent two years at Bayern, signing off with the 2020/21 Frauen Bundesliga title before sealing a move to Paris Saint-Germain, where a two-year stint yielded one French Cup title.

At international level, Amanda has won 64 caps for Sweden and has represented her nation at two UEFA European Championships and two FIFA Women’s World Cups, winning bronze in France in 2019. She was part of the Sweden side that won the silver medal at the 2016 Olympics and has been named in the Sweden squad for the upcoming World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. Arsenal plans on signing Jurrien Timber for 30million Euros.

Arsenal men’s club have agreed on signing Chelsea Kai Havertz for 65million euros on summer transfers.
