Joe Root smashed his sixth double-test century during the first test of the England tour of Pakistan 2024 in the pursuit of chasing a trail of 556 runs in their first innings.
Joe Root stitched a partnership with Harry Brook when he scored 200 runs during the first innings at Multan. After breaking several records in the ongoing test match, he smashed his double ton on the 1st session of day 04.
Earlier on day 03, Joe Root surpassed Sir Alastair Cook’s feat of highest run-getter for England in tests and also completed his 35th test century. He also became the first batter in history to score 5,000 runs in the WTC and also went past several cricket legends like Sunil Gavaskar, Younis Khan, Mahela Jayawardene and Brian Lara.

Root’s 35th test century puts him in the sixth position to have the most centuries in test cricket. He trails Sachin Tendulkar, Jacques Kallis, Ricky Ponting, Kumar Sangakkara and Rahul Dravid on the list.
Root achieved the feat in his 147th test and has also become the first batter to cross 1000 test runs in the calendar year of 2024.
After Pakistan posted a massive total of 556 runs in the first innings, Responding to the mammoth total, Zak Crawley and Joe Root forged a partnership for 113 runs before Zak Crawley sent out for 78 runs.
Joe Root and Ben Duckett joined hands putting a 136-run partnership for the second wicket. After the dismissal of Duckett, Harry Brook and Joe Root stitched a 300+ runs partnership aiming to surpass Pakistan’s 556 total. Only Shaheen Afridi, Naseem Shah and Aamer Jamal managed to pick a wicket each.
Meanwhile, the partnership helped them to continue to rise the side’s score past 600 runs. Meanwhile. Harry Brook smashed his first double-century at Multan Cricket Stadium.
