The Argentine Julian Alvarez who plays for Manchester City will be joining Atletico Madrid on a five-year deal after accepting a deal worth up to 95 million Euros. He will be playing along with Rodrigo De Paul, Nahuel Molina, and Angel Correa with Diego Simeone to coach the side.
The 24-year-old joined Manchester City for 14 million Euros from River Plate in January 2022 and has been enjoying a significant rise by helping Argentina in the World Cup and Copa America Glory as well as winning two Premier League Titles and the Champions League at the Club level.
Alvarez scored 36 times in two seasons at Manchester City as the side became the first club to win four consecutive English top-flight titles. But he was considered as Erling Halland’s for the majority of his time in Manchester.
The city has received a record sale for but may forced into the market in the final three weeks of the transfer window to find back-up to the Norwegian Striker.
The departure of Alvaro Morata to AC Milan ensures Alvarez has made him the key player in the Spanish capital, where he will have the chance to play under compatriot Diego Simeone.
Atletico is gearing up for a bid in a challenge to Real Madrid and Barcelona at the top of La Liga after finishing in the season in the fourth season. They also added Euro 2024 winner Robin Le Normand and Norwegian forward Alexander Sorloth.
City Manager Pep Guardiola has been keen on keeping the 24-year-old Alvarez and said he “counter” on Alvarez before the start of the season. “I count on him, but he said in the news that decisions will be made all together,” said Guardiola.
It has been the case in the past with Ilkay Gundogan, Riyad Mahrez, and Aymeric Laporte, but City will not stand in the way of a player who wants to leave. Atletico have also agreed to sign a deal to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher but are yet to agree with terms with Alvarez.
