King Charles consoles the England team after losing the UEFA Euro 2024 finals against Spain played on July 15 at Olympiastadion Berlin.
King Charles Comforts England After Euro 2024 Final Defeat
England’s dreams of winning the Euro 2024 championship were shattered after losing the finals against Spain in Berlin. England were outplayed by an attack-minded Spanish team, who beat England 2-1 on full-time. Nico Williams and Mikel Oyarzabal were the goalscorers putting Spain in the driver’s seat at the finals.
England’s King Charles sent a heartfelt message to the side after they lost the tournament finals and asked them to be proud. The Royal Family congratulated Spain on their success.
“Although victory may have eluded you this evening, my wife and I join all my family in urging you and your support team to hold your heads high. All those who have participated in sporting activities at any level will know how utterly despairing such a result can feel when the prize was so near – and will join me in sending heartfelt sympathy, even as we congratulate Spain,” said King Charles.
“But please know that your success in reaching the European Championship final is a really great achievement in itself, and one that brings with it the pride of a nation that will continue to roar for the Three Lions today – and in the many triumphs which I have no doubt lie ahead,” the letter further added.
Spain Vs England Highlights
Mikel Oyarzabal scored a goal giving a well-deserved victory to Spain in the finals on Sunday and recording their fourth title win.
Oyarzabal combined with Marc Curcurella on an attack for the winning goal as Spain won all seven games in the tournament. Lamine Yamal helped Nico Williams after he found space down the right for a goal as England lost their fourth successive match.
Spain enjoyed the match after England’s defense fell apart. England boss Gareth Southgate responded by sending Ollie Watkins after an hour. Cole Palmer joined him inside the ground after 10 minutes.
Cole Palmer scored in the 73rd minute leveling the score when Jude Bellingham laid the ball back into Palmer’s path who converted it into a goal. The England fans exploded after the side lost the match.
Spain weathered the storm and Oyarzabal came in the 68th minute, as there was still time for more drama at the other end as Spain’s goalkeeper Unai Simon avoided a header from Declan Rice and Dani Olmo blocked Marc Guehi’s follow-up on the line.
