Thottenham signs Vicario from Empoli
The International Guglielmo Vicario is set to be replacement for Hugo Lloris, who intends to change for new challenge.
The Italy International has signed a contract with club that will run until 2028. Vicario make a total of 71 appearences in all competitions for the Serie A team. The deal also includes bonuses on top of the initial fee.
Tottenham want to sign at least one centre-back and how many they do will depend on outgoings. on the end of the last season, Ange Postecoglo becomes thottenham’s new boss on a two year contract.
Davinson Sanchez’s future is particularly uncertain and Clement Lenglet – who made 26 appearances last season – has already returned to Barcelona following his loan spell.
Tapsoba – a Burkina Faso international – made more than 40 appearances for Bayer last season, including five in the Champions League. Adarabioyo wants to leave Fulham and can play at both right and left centre-back. On other hand, Thottenham rejects Bayern Munich bid for Harry Kane on the summer transfers.
Vicario about joining Thottenham
Vicario said, “It’s one of the biggest teams in England and in the Premier League, so I’d like to start quickly to join my team-mates because for me it is a big pleasure to be here.
“It was my first choice. I would like to go to the Premier League and in a big club like Spurs. For me, it’s so exciting. I started my career from the bottom. My dream to be at the top was so difficult. I had to do all the levels. I accept the competition with myself to be the best.
“This is my dream – but I want to live my dream now. I want to learn a lot of things because the culture of football in Italy is so different.”
On what sort of goalkeeper he is, Vicario said: “I think I can define myself like an attacking keeper. It’s a different way to see the role but I am ready for this.
“The coach told me the keeper is so important with his attacking mentality. It’s a position with big responsibility because if you fail, 99% it’s a goal for the opponent. “I love this responsibility, I love to save, I love to make contact with the grass.
“The atmosphere you can create with all the fans at home games, this is my dream to see and to face the Spurs fans. I want to share all these things with my team-mates and I hope I can do a lot of saves to help Spurs win a lot of games.”
Speaking about the summer transfers, Manchester City signs Mateo Kovacic with 25m Euros as an initial fee.
Vicario journey over the season
Empoli’s Guglielmo Vicario has played in the vast majority of the club’s Serie A games in 2022/2023, making 31 appearances overall and accumulating 2,784 minutes of playing time. He has started in all 31 of these appearances across their 38 fixtures.
Vicario last featured in a Serie A game on June 3, playing 84 minutes for Empoli versus Lazio in a 2-0 loss. He has kept seven Serie A clean sheets this term. He has amassed three yellow cards.
Last season for Empoli, Vicario made 38 Serie A appearances and kept seven clean sheets. Vicario joined Empoli in July 2022 from Cagliari, for whom he made four league appearances in total.
The 26-year-old Vicario first appeared for current team Empoli in a Serie A game in their match with Lazio on August 21, 2021, but his first appearance in the competition was on April 11, 2021 as a starter for Cagliari in their fixture against Internazionale aged 24 years and 186 days. Overall, in his Serie A career, the Italian goalkeeper has appeared 73 times with 15 clean sheets kept to date in the competition.
